I started my relationship with clay in 1992. The magic of clay grasped me immediately and threw me into a whole new world. I was and still am totally mesmorized by the feeling of the clay as it moves through my fingers. So little touch and so much response.

Currently, my main focus is Cone 10 reduction and Cone 6 oxidation, with some work in raku, pitfire and maiolica.

In all of my work I try to bring out a relaxed, free flowing and unpredictable feeling.

Cone 10 Reduction

This work is fired in a gas kiln and brought up to 2381 degrees Celcius over a 10 - 12 hour period. It is allowed to cool over a 2 day period prior to unloading. These pieces are all thrown on a potters wheel. These pieces are glazed in my base color and then a trailing white glaze is used to accentuate the piece. Due to the glazing technique each piece is uniquely different.

These pieces remind me of a beautiful blue sky with casually floating clouds.

Cone 6 Oxidation

This work is firing in an electric kiln and brought up to 2246 degrees celious over a 10 hour period and then allowed to cool slowly. These pieces are thrown on a potters wheel and then altered. The rims are manipulated to give an unnatural and relaxed look to a thrown piece. I then glaze them and double dip the rim in a contrasting color. Once again, each piece is uniquely different.

The blend of the two glazes as they fire gives a natural free flowing look to the piece.

All my functional ware is glazed with lead free glazes, are all dishwasher, freezer, microwave and oven proof. If using the oven remember to start your pottery in a cold oven and always bring your frozen pieces up to room temperature prior to cooking in.
